Solstice Corporation incorporated on the summer solstice of 1989 in Portland, Maine, after our founder and company president, Dr. Danforth DeSena, identified a need for small, high-quality surgical applicators while working in his medical office. The Micro-Tip® Applicator was introduced and quickly became a staple in medical offices throughout the United States. Since that time, Micro-Tip cotton applicators have become indispensible not only in medical procedures but also in manufacturing, optical cleaning, and in the fiber optic industries. Our original applicator products are even used by conservators to restore precious works of art at museums across the country and have even been used to clean the lenses of miniature cameras planted on the field during the Super Bowl game.

 

In 1993, Dr. DeSena recognized a need for a time-saving marker to identify external points of interest on X-rays. He was awarded patent #5193106, “X-ray Identification Marker,” and in 1996 the company expanded its product line with two new Xact® X-ray markers. The family of Xact imaging markers has now grown to include nipple markers, mole markers, scar markers, lesion markers, and CT markers. Solstice Corporation will soon release its much-awaited MRI marker.
